Mandoline
A hand-operated countertop slicer which slides food, most frequently fruits and vegetables, over adjustable, stationary blades to create slices in various shapes and sizes. While mandolines vary in style, and range in price from about $10 to $70, most have plastic or metal bases between 12 and 15 long and about 4 wide, come with several straight and serrated stainless steel blades, and are used on a countertop, positioned at a 45 degree angle. (pronounced 'man-doe-lin)
